Theme: Ritual Art – Time and Space

Dear friends,            

Community center Zora -1887 along with Development for Gorna Lipnitsa Association and  Gorna Lipnitsa Municipality is pleased to invite you to participate in the sixth edition of The Оld School Art Residency - 2015. Within one week the building of the ex-school will shelter artists from different nations who will create art together with the idea of working in a new environment.

Dates of activity: 14 – 23 August 2015

Place: Gorna Lipnitsa village, Bulgaria

Theme: Ritual Art – Time and Space

The work of the artists during their stay in the art residency will be organized on the basis of previously prepared written materials connected with various manifestations of Time and Space.

Views on Time and Space in the Bulgarian folklore, religious and esoteric rituals along with theories of Time and Space in the modern physics will be used as a starting point for work in the residency.

Like magicians who choose the proper time and space to perform their rituals, the artists in the residency will create Ritual Art by using the main characteristics of Time and Space.

The disciplines for participation are:

1. Painting
2. Wood sculpture
3. Photography
4. Visual arts and installations
5. Wall-painting
6. Music
7. Performance
8. Short films

The Residency provides:

Food and accommodation for the participants;

Workspace – indoor workshops and a photo studio, open air space for work, film and concert salon;

Materials for work;

Written materials on the topic;

Free internet connection;

Contact with the local community; 

Organized transport during the residency /if needed/;

Letters of invitation and other support to help you raise additional funds;

Translation;

Parallel program, connected with the theme of the residency;

Sightseeing in the region;

Media coverage of the event;

Certificate for participation;

Closing exhibition at the end of the residency;

Presentation of the participants and their works through an online exhibition;

Presentation of the participants and their works in a traveling exhibition that will visit the six biggest cities of Bulgaria.

Expenses paid by the artists: travel expenses to Gorna Lipnitsa.

Terms of application:

Each candidate should send us:

-          CV

-          Information about the selected discipline;

-          Short description of the initial idea for participating in the residency connected with the theme: Ritual art – Time and Space; 

-          The artists should present their works by sending info about website, portfolio or images;

Note that it is desirable for the participants to stay for the entire period of the residency.

 Selection of participants: Participants will be selected by jury.

Fee: This year (2015) the application process is free of charge.  

Number of participants: up to 10 (ten) artists

Deadline for applying: 20 May 2015

Results announcing: 1-10 June 2015
